The objective is simple: to help deserving Idaho children from predominantly underserved rural areas receive a college education.
The IAHD is fully aware that not all families can send their children to an accredited college. We also understand that our rural community populations are shrinking while our urban areas continue to see explosive growth. The effect of these competing forces is bourn out as we witness our highway districts struggle for resources, a sufficient labor pool, and a tax base large enough to meet the demands put on our infrastructure. By taking an active role in creating educational opportunities for more children, the IAHD Scholarship Fund strives to have a meaningful impact on the forces working against our rural communities
- 75% of Idaho’s school districts are classified as rural
- 20% of Idaho’s rural students are classified as minorities
- The state of Idaho ranks 50th in per pupil spending in rural school districts
- The college enrollment rate of rural Idaho high school graduates is 51%, compared to 69% nationally
- 8% decrease (from 54% to 46%) in the number of Idaho students continuing on to college since 2014
Who is Eligible?
The IAHD Scholarship Fund is for children and grandchildren of all Highway District Employees. All part- or full-time students with a 2.5 GPA or higher enrolled in an Idaho institution are eligible for the scholarship fund. Applications will be accepted from January to March 2019. After review of applications by the IAHD Scholarship Fund Board of Officers and Directors, applicants will be notified by mail in June. Awards will be distributed directly to the school in August 2019.
Annual Kick-Off Celebration & Fundraiser
On the evening of November 14th 2018, the IAHD will hold its Annual Kick-Off Celebration and Fundraiser at the Coeur d’Alene Resort in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The event will feature dinner and dancing coupled with a silent and live auction. All donations received through the auction portion of the program will be deposited into the general fund of the IAHD Scholarship Fund account.
Event attendees will include highway district employees and commissioners from the 63 different Idaho highway districts, industry professionals, vendors, elected officials, and many other IAHD stakeholders. We anticipate upwards of 400+ attendees at this year’s kick-off event!
Last year’s kick-off event raised $111,415 for the IAHD through sponsorships alone.
While it was an enormous success for our Association, we are chomping at the bit to see what we can achieve now that we have added an auction component to this year’s fundraising event.
